Privacy Policy

Last Updated: December 2025

I believe privacy policies should be easy to read, especially for a tool designed to reduce anxiety. Here is exactly what happens to your data when you use the Interview Decoder.

The Short Version (TL;DR):
  • I do not sell your data.
  • I do not store the job specs or stories you type in.
  • The data is processed securely by a third-party provider, and I have opted out of their 'training' program. Your data is not used to train models.

1. Who is "I"?

This tool is built and run by Rob Oates. I am an individual developer, researcher, and autistic advocate, not a large faceless corporation. If you have questions about your data, you are emailing me directly.

2. What information do I collect?

Currently, I do not store the content you type into the tool.

When you paste a job description or type your messy notes, that text is sent securely to the AI engine to be processed, converted into the interview pack, and sent back to your browser. Once that process is finished, I do not keep a copy of that text in my own database.

Technical Data: Like almost all websites, the hosting provider may collect basic technical logs (like your IP address or browser type) to ensure the site stays secure and online.

3. Data Processing & Security

To provide the decoding service, the text you submit is processed by a secure third-party provider (OpenAI). This processing is transient:

  • Your data is sent securely via encryption.
  • It is used solely to generate the interview pack.
  • I have opted out of data training. Your inputs are NOT used to train their models.
  • We do not retain your submission text after processing is complete.

4. Cookies

I do not use tracking cookies for advertising. I may use essential cookies to make sure the website functions correctly (for example, remembering which step of the process you are on).

5. A Note on "Beta" Testing

This tool is currently in Beta. This means I am actively working on improving it.

In the future, I may introduce an optional feature allowing you to "Save" your interview packs, or allowing me to view anonymised inputs to improve the system. If I do this, I will ask for your explicit permission first (via a tick box or opt-in button). I will never silently turn on data recording without telling you.
